Expanding Access. Standardizing Care.

How Access Infusion Care, is using 4U Medical to modernize and standardize patient check-in across locations.

Access Infusion Care is building a community-based infusion network focused on expanding access to high-quality infusion therapy in rural and underserved communities.

Its mission is centered around bringing advanced therapies closer to the patients who need them, reducing geographic barriers while maintaining a high-quality, patient-centered experience.

Specialty Infusion Center, an Access Infusion Care company serving communities throughout Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, recently was the first location chosen to pilot the 4U Medical patient access platform at its Gaylord, Michigan infusion center.

The goal was to ensure a more standardized, efficient and safe check-in experience for both patients and staff.

A More Complete Check-In Experience

Following the pilot, Jodie Lockman-Samkowiak, DNP, RN, CRNI, Vice President & General Manager – Michigan, shared her team's experience:

“We recently piloted the 4U system. The system allows patients to check in, scan their driver’s license and insurance cards, sign required documents, and even pay their bill—all within seconds.”

Rather than relying on staff to manually complete and track each part of the intake process, 4U Medical brings key patient-facing workflows together into one standardized experience.

For growing infusion organizations, that standardization becomes increasingly important as the same processes need to be carried out consistently across different employees, locations and patient populations.

Building Safety Into the Workflow

Check-in automation wasn't only about efficiency.

Jodie highlighted how the platform incorporates medication-specific workflows and an additional patient verification step directly into the check-in process:

“One of the features we particularly appreciate is the system’s ability to recognize when a patient’s medication has changed since their previous visit and automatically trigger a new consent to care. Once check-in is complete, the kiosk generates a patient identifier ticket displaying the patient’s name and the medication they are receiving that day, providing an additional layer of safety and verification.”

These workflows help make important steps part of the process itself rather than something staff have to independently remember to perform.

Saving Staff Time While Reducing Opportunities for Error

Technology at the front desk should make the work around it easier.

That was one of the areas the team saw during the pilot.

“The kiosk is conveniently located at the entrance of our infusion center, making the process easy and intuitive for both patients and staff. It has been a tremendous time saver, improves patient safety, and helps eliminate opportunities for errors such as misfiling paperwork.”

For multi-location infusion organizations, those improvements can extend beyond an individual check-in.

Standardized workflows can reduce repetitive administrative work, create greater consistency between locations and give staff more time to focus on the responsibilities that require their attention.

More Than the Technology

Successful implementation also depends on making the technology work within the facility's existing workflow.

Jodie highlighted the support provided by the 4U Medical team throughout that process:

“Nick and Josh have also been fantastic throughout the entire process. They worked closely with us to get everything set up, educated our staff, made sure the workflow was functioning as intended, and have continued to provide frequent follow-up and support.”

Our goal at 4U Medical isn't simply to place technology inside a facility.

It's to understand how each organization operates, configure the patient journey around those workflows, support staff through implementation, and continue improving the experience after launch.

From Pilot to Company-Wide Rollout

Ultimately, the strongest measure of a pilot is what happens after it.

For Access, the decision was to expand.

“We are so pleased with 4U that we have decided to roll it out across all our company locations. It has made a significant difference in our check-in process and has been a great addition to our patient experience.”

As Access Infusion Care continues pursuing its mission of bringing high-quality infusion therapy into rural and underserved communities, 4U Medical is proud to support its Michigan operations with technology designed to make the patient journey more standardized, efficient and safe.
